Ubersoca Cruise 2023: A Project Manager's Perspective on Sailing into Soca Paradise

This year marked a thrilling chapter for me as I stepped into the heart of the action, not as a reveler, but as a key player in the execution of the unforgettable Ubersoca Cruise 2023. As a project manager overseeing event execution and liaising with artists and DJs, I gained profound insights into the orchestration of this colossal and amazing event.

Destination Delights: Belize and Costa Maya

Sailing on the Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas, we made stops in the enchanting Harvest Caye, Belize, and the vibrant Costa Maya, Mexico. The familiar throb of excitement synonymous with USC was seamlessly transported onto the Explorer of the Seas.

Musical Bliss: Concerts and Pool Parties

The sonic landscape of USC is always a highlight, and this year was no exception. The White Onyx concert featuring Ricardo Drue, Alison Hinds, Shal Marshall, Patrice, Voice, and King Bubba set the stage for a musical journey. The Olympic Swim Team pool party made a splash, but the real knockout was the Fight Night-themed comedy show followed by a concert with Mr. Killa, Pumpa, Asa Banton, DJ Cheem, Fyah Wayne, Luni Sparks, and Adam O.

International Flavor: Jouvert in Belize and Vintage Celebrity Concert

Belize witnessed our soca invasion with a Jouvert that kept the energy high. The evening unfolded with a Vintage Celebrity Concert, creating an electric atmosphere as soca legends took center stage.

Garden of Eden Extravaganza in Mexico

Day 4 transported us to an epic Garden of Eden-themed pool party in Mexico. The vibes were infectious, and the event quickly became the talk of the cruise. The Bring Your Own Carnival Costume Neon Edition Concert featured Lil Rick, Motto, Lil Natty & Thunda, and College Boy Jessie, providing a vibrant feast for the senses.

Grand Finale: Bachannal Ball and Harlem Renaissance Concert

As we sailed into our final day, a crescendo of festivities awaited. Another pool party set the tone for the Bachannal Ball, leading up to the grand Harlem Renaissance Concert with Bunji, Faye Ann, Nailah Blackman, Lyrikal, and Skinny Fabulous.

Looking Forward to Uber X in Fall 2024

The journey may have concluded, but the excitement continues to reverberate. Next year promises a new adventure with Uber X in Fall 2024. Every soca lover owes it to themselves to experience this magical musical voyage that unites enthusiasts in celebration of the genre that binds us together.

Beyond Music: Informative Sessions and Sponsorships

Ubersoca Cruise goes beyond music, offering informational sessions on natural hair, speed dating, DJ 101, fitness classes, and this year, we were sponsored by CariGenetics, providing essential information for people of Caribbean descent.

Get Ready to Pump on Uber X

As we bid adieu to this year's cruise, I'm already gearing up for the next. If you're signed up and ready to pump on Uber X, I'll see you there! Until then, let the memories of Ubersoca Cruise 2023 linger as a testament to the power of soca to bring people together in celebration.

My experience as the Face of the Festival for Toronto Carnival 2019

I  have been attending Caribbean carnivals since a child, and each and every experience is unique and special in its own way. From Trinidad to Jamaica, and Atlanta to Washington, each carnival has its own flavour, its own style, and its own vibe. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, I can’t help but have an appreciation for our carnival and feel a personal responsibility for its execution and the enjoyment of everyone. Whether through volunteering, participating, or helping administrators and costume makers along the way I have always tried to have my hand in the production of Toronto’s carnival. This year, as the Face of the Festival (along with Joel “The Connector” Davis), I was blessed with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to officially represent the carnival in public and in mass media, and the honour was everything I could have asked for, as a support of our hometown festival. It all began with my application for the Face of the Festival competition, where I...
