TORONTO CARIBBEAN CARNIVAL “FACE OF THE FESTIVAL” NADELLE ATTENDS JR. CARNIVAL LAUNCH
TORONTO, ONT (July 3, 2019) – This afternoon at Malvern Town Centre (31 Tapscott Road) from 11:30am to 1:00pm, Nadelle, the “Face of the Festival” for the Toronto Caribbean Carnival, attended the official media launch for the Jr. Carnival. Open to the media and the public, this event serves as a preview for the year’s costumes from over 100 junior masqueraders, in addition to live performances and entertainment for the community to enjoy.
“I have always had a special place in my heart for kiddie carnival,” said Nadelle. “It is so important for us to teach the young people in our community about our culture, our heritage, and that there is more to carnival than just music and dancing.”
As a volunteer with various masquerade bands over the years, Nadelle has dedicated her time to help recruit participants for the Jr. Carnival, as well as helping with costuming, administration, and the monitoring of children on parade day.
“This is our cultural legacy, even for those of us who were born in Canada,” said Nadelle. “The way we introduce carnival to the children will be the biggest influence in how they chose to carry on our Caribbean heritage in the next generation.”
As the “Face of the Festival,” Nadelle will be present at all official Toronto Carnival events, endorsing the festival for the weeks leading up to the parade on August 3. She will also continue to spread the messaging of #everyBODYplayahmas along the way.
