Face of the Festival 2019 - Toronto Caribbean Carnival | NADELLE JOINS JAMAAL MAGLOIRE AND THE TORONTO REVELLERS ON BREAKFAST TELEVISION

TORONTO CARIBBEAN CARNIVAL “FACE OF THE FESTIVAL” NADELLE JOINS JAMAAL MAGLOIRE AND THE TORONTO REVELLERS ON BREAKFAST TELEVISION

TORONTO, ONT (June 28, 2019) – This morning Nadelle, the “Face of the Festival” for the Toronto Caribbean Carnival, joined Toronto Raptors’ assistant coach Jamaal Magloire and his Toronto Carnival masquerade band the Toronto Revellers for an appearance on City TV’s Breakfast Television. Joined by youth and adult masqueraders in costume, as well as the Revellers Rhythm Section (percussion band), the group danced while chatting with Dina Pugliese and Devo Brown about Magloire’s upcoming Canada Day long weekend event, as well as the carnival season.

Nadelle, who is also a part of the Toronto Revellers’ administrative team, joined her peers to provide the visual display of costumes and colours, inviting the Toronto viewing community to take part in the upcoming festivities.

“Carnival is a great event for people to participate in: it’s a freedom of expression, and lots of fun,” said Nadelle. “I always encourage people to come on down the road and have fun with us.”

Magloire also welcomed viewers to join the Toronto Revellers in carnival activities and extended an invitation to his annual all-inclusive on the Ontario Science Centre patio. “Escape” features live music and international DJs, along with a range of foods and beverages with proceeds supporting the Jamaal Magloire Foundation for at-risk youth.

Nadelle expressed her joy with being a part of the community-building celebrations and the Revellers team. “Toronto Carnival is very important to me, and I’m very happy to be a part of the Toronto Revellers and the Face of the Festival.”.

As the “Face of the Festival,” Nadelle will be present at all official Toronto Carnival events, endorsing the festival for the weeks leading up to the parade on August 3. She will also continue to spread the messaging of #everyBODYplayahmas along the way.

My experience as the Face of the Festival for Toronto Carnival 2019

I  have been attending Caribbean carnivals since a child, and each and every experience is unique and special in its own way. From Trinidad to Jamaica, and Atlanta to Washington, each carnival has its own flavour, its own style, and its own vibe. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, I can’t help but have an appreciation for our carnival and feel a personal responsibility for its execution and the enjoyment of everyone. Whether through volunteering, participating, or helping administrators and costume makers along the way I have always tried to have my hand in the production of Toronto’s carnival. This year, as the Face of the Festival (along with Joel “The Connector” Davis), I was blessed with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to officially represent the carnival in public and in mass media, and the honour was everything I could have asked for, as a support of our hometown festival. It all began with my application for the Face of the Festival competition, where I...

Masquerader Monday - 17.12.18 | Nicole

Brief biography (profession, hobbies, passions, etc.):  * 26 year old Youtuber Grad Student living in NYC. I'm currently getting my degree in Public Policy and Administration in hopes to become an Inspector General and Investigator. When I am not in my books I work for WCS located in The Bronx Zoo. My hobbies include swimming, dancing, and chasing carnival dreams. How and when did you first start playing mas?  * I first started playing mas in 2013. I was exposed to it from a young age in Jamaica when my aunt participated. My first experience was not a pleasant one but the next year I found a new mas camp to participate in and it was love ever since. From there I tried out to model and did my first photoshoot for Miami Carnival 2017. What carnival experience has been your favourite (and most proud) to date?  * My favorite carnival experience has to be New York 2017. I had such a great time with my friends and I fe...

Masquerader Monday - 26.11.18 | Neffer 'Boom' Kerr

Meet Masquerader  Neffer 'Boom' Kerr I am a grad student and writer. I have written for Ebony, Jet, and other publications as well. I have a blog on ChicagoNow called It's the Boom Show and am currently working on my first book. I love to sing, dance, and create art, but nothing brings me more joy than playing mas. How and when did you first start playing mas?  I was first exposed at 12 years old when I got to be around the Brasilian dance troupe Balé Folclórico da Bahia. That is when I fell in love with mas. I didn't start playing until adulthood, but now it's more than just looking and feeling good. The culture, the history, the why, and how it's done in different places is important to me. What carnival experience has been your favourite (and most proud) to date? Definitely Miami Carnival 2017. I was with my friends and my cousin. We got to the grounds right after they had locked the gate. We would have had to walk...
